2013–2019 Cadillac ATS FAQ
What does the check engine light mean if no gear number is displayed?
2018–2019
If no gear number appears while the shift lever is in gear, the malfunction indicator lamp comes on and service is required; ARM is disabled, but the clutch and manual transmission continue operating normally.
Page 201 in the 2019 manual →2013–2016
Do not use gasoline or fuel additives containing MMT; if the malfunction indicator lamp turns on, have your dealer service the vehicle.
Page 281 in the 2016 manual →When should I change the engine oil and filter?
2018–2019
After CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON appears, change the engine oil and filter within the next 1 000 km/600 mi.
Change them at least yearly, reset the oil life system after service, and if it was reset accidentally, service within 5 000 km/3,000 mi of the last service.
Page 328 in the 2019 manual →2013–2016
Once the oil is changed, with the Oil Life display active, press and hold SEL for several seconds to reset it.
Reset it only after an oil change; otherwise, the display cannot reset accurately until the next oil change.
Page 133 in the 2016 manual →What routine maintenance checks should I perform between scheduled services?
2018–2019
At each fuel stop, check engine oil; once a month, check tire pressure, tire wear, and windshield washer fluid level.
Page 328 in the 2019 manual →2013–2016
The Oil Life display estimates remaining oil life; when CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON appears, change the oil as soon as possible.
The oil-life system does not replace the additional maintenance recommended in the Maintenance Schedule.

2018–2019
On a level surface, place the vehicle in P (Park), or in Neutral with the parking brake applied for a manual transmission, and check that the level is between the reservoir's minimum and maximum marks.
Page 266 in the 2019 manual →How do I replace the key transmitter battery?
2018–2019
- If the DIC displays REPLACE BATTERY IN REMOTE KEY, replace the transmitter battery.
- Press the transmitter side button, pull out the key, and separate the housings with a flat tool at the bottom center, not the key slot.
- Remove the old battery without using a metal object.
- Install a CR2032 or equivalent battery in the back housing with the positive side facing down.
- Align the front and back housings, then snap the transmitter together.
- Do not touch the transmitter circuitry because static from your body could damage it.
How do I turn on the automatic headlamps?
2013–2016
Set the exterior lamp control to AUTO; the headlamps come on when dark, and covering the instrument-panel sensor can activate them unexpectedly.
Page 164 in the 2016 manual →How do I enable IntelliBeam automatic high beams?
2013–2016
If equipped, set the exterior lamp control to AUTO with the turn signal lever neutral; high beams activate above 40 km/h (25 mph) in darkness without traffic, and keep the windshield sensor area clear.
