Brake fluid absorbs water over time, reducing its effectiveness, so change it at the specified intervals to prevent degraded braking performance.

1. Drive approximately 19 mi (30 km) until the transmission reaches normal operating temperature, then park on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. With the engine running, hold the brake, move the gearshift through every range, allow each gear to engage, then select Park (P).
3. Remove and wipe the dipstick with a clean, dry, lint-free rag, fully reinstall it, then remove it and check the designated normal-temperature area.
4. Do not drive if the dipstick shows no fluid when the ambient temperature is above 50 °F (10 °C).
