2004–2011 Dodge Dakota FAQ

When should I change the engine oil?

2011

Change the oil within 500 miles (805 km) after the indicator appears, and never exceed 8,000 miles (13 000 km) or six months, whichever comes first.

Change it sooner under severe conditions, including dusty areas, very short trips, or extended off-road driving.

Have the battery and charging system inspected at your authorized dealer if frequent jump-starting is required.

How do I replace the halogen headlamp bulb?

2011

  1. Open the hood and remove the three bolts from the front of the headlamp housing.
  2. Grasp the housing and pull it firmly from the fender panel.
  3. Hold the housing, unlock and disconnect the headlamp bulb connector, then twist the bulb one-quarter turn and replace it.
  4. Do not touch the halogen bulb with your fingers because body oils can cause excessive heat buildup and reduce bulb life.

How do I replace the keyless-entry transmitter battery?

  1. Use a 2016 replacement battery, and do not touch the battery terminals on the back housing or printed circuit board.
  2. With the buttons facing down, pry the transmitter halves apart with a flat blade or dime without damaging the rubber gasket.
  3. Remove and replace the batteries without touching the new batteries; if touched, clean them with rubbing alcohol because skin oils may cause deterioration.
  4. Snap the case halves together with an even gap, then test transmitter operation.
