2012–2026 Chevrolet Colorado FAQ

What should I do if the brake fluid level is low?

2025–2026

A low level may result from normal lining wear or a brake system leak; a leak means the brakes will not work well and requires dealer repair.

Do not top off the fluid, because adding fluid does not correct a leak and may leave too much fluid after new linings are installed.

2024

With the vehicle in P (Park) on a level surface, check that the reservoir level is between the minimum and maximum marks; clean the cap and surrounding area before removing it.

Replace the engine air filter at the next oil change for REPLACE AT NEXT OIL CHANGE, or at the earliest convenience for REPLACE SOON.

2024

Rotate the tires and complete required services every 12 000 km (7,500 mi); rotate them sooner if unusual wear appears and check inflation, damage, and alignment if wear continues.

How do I check the automatic transmission fluid level?

2025–2026

You do not need to check the transmission fluid level; if a leak occurs, have your dealer repair it as soon as possible.

Checking or changing the fluid requires a difficult special procedure, so the manual says your dealer should perform it.

2024

If the transmission hot message appears, stop and idle the engine to cool the automatic transmission fluid; driving can damage the vehicle, and the message clears when the fluid cools sufficiently.

Should I re-gap the spark plugs?

2024

No. The manufacturer presets the spark plug gaps, and re-gapping can damage the spark plug.

What if the brake warning light comes on while driving?

2012

Pull off the road and stop carefully. If the light stays on, have the truck towed for service; braking may require more pedal effort and a longer stopping distance.

What should I do if the malfunction indicator lamp flashes?

2012

Reduce speed and avoid hard acceleration and steep hills. If towing, reduce the load. If the light keeps flashing, stop, switch off the engine for at least 10 seconds, restart it, and contact a dealer if it still flashes.

What should I do when the low tire pressure light comes on?

2012

Stop as soon as possible and inflate the tires to the cold pressure on the Tire and Loading Information label. The TPMS does not replace regular pressure checks.

Printed page 10-56 in the 2012 manual →

What does a flashing TPMS light that stays on mean?

2012

Flashing for about one minute and then staying on indicates a TPMS malfunction. Have the vehicle serviced if the light and Driver Information Center message remain on; the system may not warn about low pressure.
